GW keeps "resetting" my progress
I decided to get some 15k aeromancer armour, and thus run to Marhan's Grotto. I had to go from the Iron mines, or I would have to had do that mission twice. I got there eventually, got enough stuff to get my bolts of damask crafted. And then when I left the crafter, I found that I had lost all of my damask and Marhan's Grotto on my map location. So I thought, "ok perhaps my PC's a bit bugged". Reset it, started buying crafting materials again. Go the damask - and then when I went back to run from the Iron Mines... I found I didn't have my materials.
So then I decided to make one last run. I did, teleported to Droknars to check if I still had Marhan's Grotto on my map - I did. Went back and decided to log off to get the update. Logged back on and could see that I was being transported to Marhan's Grotto - the name was there. But then.....yep, you guess it - GW decided to warp me back to the Iron mines and take Marhan's Grotto off my map.
Anyone had this problem? It can't be anything to do with my PC, because once I've got to a location on the map, it can't be removed. So it must have been their problem.

Yes I am getting the same kind of problem, I was at Marhan's collecting Frigid Hearts so I could get collector fire staff, got the 5 I needed, went to Ice Caves got the staff and put it in my storage.
Logged out and switched to my ele, staff had vanished and a rune I had also put in storage had vanished, logged back on as my warrior and was back at marhans even though the last place I had been was Ice caves.
Tested with all three of my characters and it is the same, it is like any progress or changes are not being saved.
Anyone else with same problem.

I've basically insisted that they either warp my character to the grotto with the damask, or send someone in-game to give it to me and run me there. Can they do that?
EDIT: They say that they can't do such a thing, but will refer it back to the "Quality Assurance" department to see if action needs to be taken. So I guess I won't be playing GW for a while then.

I have had my character "reset" to an older copy before.
I had changed my interface in the Gates of Kryta area, then teleported to Loin's Arch and logged out.
I logged back in and I was in the Gates of Kryta with my old interface..

Yea i'm having a similar problem,
Went to FoW last nite with 3 other guildies and some other ppl. While we were in there a different guild member said there was a game update available.
When died in FoW and came back to temple of ages I logged out and logged back in the get the update (not sure if the problems started before i logged out or not but am guessing the update messed it up)
When i logged back in I realised I had lost all the stuff I had got in FoW and unfortuanately i'd had a good run and got 3 shards amongst some other crap. Annoyed about losing the shards, but carried on. Put about 6k in storage that I had been holding and started chatting to guildies about it.
Checked my inventory again to make sure hasnt missed them and realised that the 6k was back in it! Now, i'd had a couple of drinks by this point and thought "you've drunk more than you thought!" and put the money in storage again and carried on chatting.
Checked again few min later and the money had come back into my inventory. Time to log out, that mite fix it.
Logged back in and it happened again! Warped to augery rock and put the money in storage and it stayed there but when logged out and back in again it was back in my inventory! Also kept warping me back to temple of ages and not augery rock.
Now if I pick up any items/money then log out and back in they have gone. Also if i change my skill setup bar it goes back to what it was before.
So basically i've lost all my stuff from FoW run (including 3 shards!) and the game doesnt save!!! This is only a prob for one of my chars as far as I have checked. This has also happened to the 3 other guildies who were with me in FoW and one of them had 3 shards too!
Was anyone else in FoW when the update came through?

I had the update notice on staturday morning when I quickly logged on to try it before I went to work.
So for me the update is after the problem started occuring, anyone notice that Anet have not updated the history log,http://www.guildwars.com/news/gameupdates.html
I emailed support and have had a responce saying they are looking into it, so I will what happens.

TBH, the errors started occuring before the update for me. I only saw the update after the second time I got to the Grotto. So either it was an attempt at resolving the problem that did nothing, or it was an unrelated update (and they haven't got around to updating the website because they're focusing their attention on it).
If anyone gets this error, make sure to e-mail them so that they put more and more people on the case

Yeah it's fine now. I asked ArenaNet to post a general notice about what happened with an apology. Talal especially deserves one!

tbh, I think it was datbase backups being restored..
as with most databases, I would assume that thier database is written only every so often (they cant write to it every milisecond with all thoes accounts running).. So, if theres a server crash and you have to log out, or get an up date (such as the one a few nights ago, which was the tombs/gvg issue that they havent posted) that was a server crash, it may not have written the latest database before it crashed.. so after they updated it, and restarted the server the older database was loaded..
Because of the mass number of servers they have, i can imagine such issues happening on a regular basis, I know it happened alot with Diablo on Battle.Net and I complained to them, and thats exactly what they told me, about the databases..
I hope this explains it, If not for all of the above, atleast for some of them..
